This module provides a chance to attend a major international PhD school in conjunction with ICOMST 2017 ( PhD researchers an avail of an intensive 2 day phD training school in UCC (11-12th August 2017) before attending the ICOMST conference in the Rochestown Park Hotel. 

Topics covered as part of the programme include

  • Animal production and welfare

  • Factory level considerations (processing and quality)

  • Fresh meat

  • Value added products

  • Researcher development for meat scientists.

  • ICOMST convention 13-18th August.


Target audience:

All PhD students working in the area of Meat Science.

Learning outcomes and impact:

At the end of the module, researchers should have a solid grounding in all the principle factors influencing meat products in Ireland and Internationally. 

Module delivery:

The first 2 days of the programme and classroom based witha  mix of lectures, discussions and interactive exercises. The remaining of the course is convention format in conjunction with ICOMST

Module assessment:

This module will be assessed by completing a reflective journal of students experience and learnings at the convention.
