Leadership for the Agri-Food Researcher
Every January we run a module on leadership skills for the Agri-Food sector. We ran it last week, and it is one of our most popular modules and always fills up quickly and I always have to turn people away.
So for those who weren’t lucky enough to get a place this time around, or those who are interested in knowing more, I thought I’d summarise some key points and point you in the direction of where you can get more information if you are interested.
A lot of it is about developing self-awareness – understanding and valuing your strengths, while seeing where you could develop skills and how they could help you to get where you want to be.
Mindtools.com is a great website where a lot of very useful resources can be found, and a good place to start.

Do a swot analysis on yourself here
Learn time management skills here
Read up on project management
Develop some key objectives about what you need to do to move closer to your goals.
Read up on coaching and how you can develop techniques to bring out the best in people who you support in the workplace.
Identify what role you play in a team – go to Belbin
Read up about DiSC profiling- this opens your eyes as to what type of leader you are and highlights areas where you are strong, and others that you could develop.
Develop your professional network.
Develop your digital presence- Build your profile on LinkedIn and Twitter.
